Paper Discovery
Minimize

While the quantity and relevance of electronic data in the discovery process is growing exponentially, paper documents are still an important aspect of many cases.  H&A's scanning and coding services provide our clients with the ability to have both electronic and paper evidence processed in one secure location.

Scanning & OCR

Project Management

H&A's experienced eDiscovery management team oversees every facet of our paper discovery process, using the same client consultation, quality control processes, technical support and custom reporting standards that have built our reputation as one of Canada’s preeminent eDiscovery service providers.

Technology and In-House Resources

Utilizing the latest high-speed scanning and OCR technology, and our proprietary eExamine™ hosting and review platform, H&A can customize paper discovery projects to meet any specification, including integration with other electronic data. Furthermore, our full-time in-house scanning and coding professionals have been trained to deliver outstanding results on every engagement.

Secure Facilities

H&A's paper discovery services are located in our secure Toronto eDiscovery Centre, which features triple redundant levels of physical security.

Unitization

To help establish the beginning and end pages, or boundaries, of a document, our scanning team uses both Physical Determination (reflecting the document groupings that are formed by staples and paper clips), and Logical Determination (based on the relationship of page content to adjacent pages, including attachments).

Coding

Comprehensive Coding

H&A's scanning and coding specialists work with counsel to develop and implement a case specific objective coding protocol, capturing standard data such as date, title, document type, author and recipients as well as any other defined data field.

eExamine Conceptual™

Assigning coding parameters to scanned documents is the most labour intensive aspect of paper discovery. Using eExamine Conceptual™, H&A's powerful conceptual search engine, to review and eliminate non-relevant OCR output before is coded can drastically reduce the number of documents that require coding, resulting in potential time and cost savings of up to 70%.

Exporting and Production

eExamine™

Most of our clients use our online eExamine™ hosting and review platform to review both electronic and scanned paper documents. eExamine™ has the unique capability of seamlessly integrating with document management system in CT Summation™. eExamine™ is also capable of exporting data directly into CaseMap™.

The Impact of Similar-Document Review Technology

Using technology to group similar-documents and code them in the same manner, rather than reviewing and coding them individually, can save significant document review time.   More
